What began as a passion for baking has grown into a brand centered around creating memorable desserts that feel familiar, indulgent, and just a little BOUGIE.

The Woman Behind the BOUGIE.
Dr. Monique “Dr. Mo” Porter, PhD is the Founder and Executive Pastry Chef of Cakesbythelb™ Dessert Co. A self-taught pastry chef, entrepreneur, researcher, and educator, she brings creativity, precision, discipline, and intention into everything she creates.
Every recipe is thoughtfully developed and made from scratch with quality ingredients, with the goal of creating desserts that feel special, memorable, and full of flavor.
Passion & purpose

Dr. Mo earned her PhD in Health Services in 2021 and celebrated her doctoral commencement in 2023 at Walt Disney World.
It was the perfect place to celebrate such a meaningful milestone — where dreams come true.
That same passion, attention to detail, and commitment to excellence are part of the heart of Cakesbythelb™ Dessert Co.
Founded in 2015, Cakesbythelb™ Dessert Co. has grown from a passion for baking into a licensed Detroit-area bakery serving customers throughout Metro Detroit while shipping select desserts nationwide.
Dr. Mo’s story reflects the belief that passion and purpose can exist in more than one space — from doctoral research to the bakery kitchen.
